WILLMAR - The Ridgewater volleyball team looked impressive, riddling a strong Rochester team 25-22, 25-23, 21-25, 25-15 on Saturday afternoon at Ridgewater.
The win tied a knot at the top of the MCAC South. Both Ridgewater and the Yellowjackets are 9-1.
“The match had a playoff-type feel to it,” commented coach Joe Sussenguth. “This is the kind of match experience we need and at the same time gain a win.”
The offense worked the edge with outside hitters Jen Puncochar delivering 19 kills and Tegan VanMoer 18.
“We leaned on our outsides for most of our scoring, but we were able to run a balanced offense and keep their defense off balance just enough to create some holes.”

The Jackets’ offense was more concentrated with jumping-jack Taylor Aakre supplying exactly half of the team’s 44 kills. The 5-foot-11 sophomore had only one error in 32 attacks for a .656 kill percentage.
Ridgewater has three division games left. Four teams advance to the Region 13 Tournament from the Southern Division.
Taylor Sharpe made 22 digs on defense and Tiffani Karbo had 41 set ups that went for points.
