WORTHINGTON -- Ridgewater's Chase Tempel won five of six matches and placed third in the Minnesota West Open on Saturday.
Over 150 wrestlers competed in the tournament that features many Division I wrestlers, including 10 Minnesota Gophers.
Ridgewater had 10 wrestlers compete and all won at least one match. The Warriors won 20 of the 39 matches they wrestled. Three Warriors wrestlers lost semifinal matches, including Tempel who fell to Jake Dietcher, an Olympian who wrestles for the Gophers. Gopher freshman and three-time state prep champion Kevin Steinhaus of Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg beat Ridgewater's Martin Hagen in the 184-pound semifinals.
Placing fourth for Ridgewater was Nate Friederich at 125 pounds, Jake Patnode at 141 and Hagen at 184.
Patnode lost his semifinal match to Bart Rieter of the Gophers.
