College baseball: Ridgewater opens the season with a big win

Warriors lash out 13 hits in 11-3 victory over Vermilion Community College on Monday in Florida. Ridgewater has two more games scheduled Tuesday on its season-opening trip.

AUBURNDALE, Fla. — The Ridgewater baseball team opened the 2022 season with an 11-3 victory over Vermilion Community College on Monday.

The Warriors lashed out 13 hits to beat the school from Ely. Bennett Knapper, a freshman from Yellow Medicine East, went 3-for-4 with a run, an RBI and a triple.

Tyler Traphagen, Brad Bickmann, Seth Resnick and Jaxon Nickels all had two hits for Ridgewater. Bickman, a freshman from Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted, doubled and homered, driving in four runs.

Reece Schwirtz, a right-hander from Glencoe-Silver Lake, got the pitching win with six solid innings. He allowed four hits with two runs, zero earned. He struck out 11 and walked two.


Ridgewater continues its season-opening trip to Florida with games scheduled for Tuesday against Mesabi Range Community College and Erie Community College of New York.
