College basketball: Ridgewater women fall in opener and Warriors men win

Women's team loses 92-29 to Dordt JV and the Ridgewater men's team beats the Defenders 82-78

WORTHINGTON — The Ridgewater women’s basketball team opened the 2022-23 season with a 92-29 loss to the Dordt College JV on Friday evening at Minnesota West Community and Technical College.

Dordt had 11 players score, led by Sally Wine’s 14 points. The Defenders built a 44-22 halftime lead.

Gabby Randt, a freshman post from MACCRAY, led Ridgewater with 11 points and three steals. Mallery Geistfeld, a freshman from Granada-Huntley-East Chain, had nine rebounds.

Ridgewater plays the Northwestern University of St. Paul JV at noon Saturday at Minnesota West. The Warriors’ home opener is 5 p.m. Wednesday against Central Lakes College of Brainerd.
