Malik Westerfield’s late basket gives Ridgewater a 79-78 win over Spartans

FERGUS FALLS — Malik Westerfield made a lay-up as time expired to lead Ridgewater College to a 79-78 victory Wednesday night over Minnesota State Community and Technical College-Fergus Falls.

MS-Fergus Falls took a 78-77 lead with five seconds left with Akok Aguer made two free throws in a game that featured six ties and 10 lead changes.

Jaylyn Clardy, the sophomore from Pensacola, Florida, led the Warriors with 31 points, five rebounds and four steals.

Aguer, a sophomore from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, led the Spartans with 26 points.

Ridgewater plays at 3 p.m. Saturday at Rochester Community & Technical College.

Minnesota State-Fergus Falls got 21 points and 10 rebounds from Emily Dehler in its win at Fergus Falls.

Keely Foley, a freshman from Montevideo, had 14 points from the Spartans.

Jenna Kunerth, a 5-foot-7 freshman from Browerville, led Ridgewater with 19 points. Gabby Randt, the Warriors’ leading scorer and rebounder, did not play.

Ridgewater plays at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rochester.
