Warriors earn their first victory of the season at Itasca, 48-46

GRAND RAPIDS — The Ridgewater women’s basketball team earned its first victory of the season by beating Minnesota North-Itasca 48-46 on Friday night.

Mallery Geistfeld and Brooke Edlund led the Warriors. Geistfeld, a 5-foot-9 freshman from Granada-Huntley-East Chain, had 22 points on 9-for-17 shooting, including 4 of 11 from 3-point range. She also had five rebounds in 37 minutes.

Edlund had 12 points on 6-for-15 shooting. The freshman from Rocori played 38 minutes. Gabby Randt, the freshman from MACCRAY, played 40 minutes and had nine points and 11 rebounds. Zola Olson, a freshman from Montevideo, also played 40 minutes and had 10 rebounds and four assists.

Ridgewater shot 42.9% (21 of 49), out-rebounded the Vikings 38-29 and committed eight turnovers.

Ridgewater plays Northland Community & Technical College at 1 p.m. Saturday in Thief River Falls.

Ridgewater lost the Minnesota College Athletic Conference game to the Vikings of Minnesota North-Itasca in Grand Rapids.

Donte Whymns had 16 points, nine rebounds and two steals to lead Itasca.

Jaylyn Clardy, the 6-foot-3 sophomore from Pensacola, Florida, had 15 points and six rebounds to lead the Warriors.

Ridgewater plays next at 3 p.m. Saturday at Northland Community & Technical College in Thief River Falls.
