MADISON, Wis. — The University of Minnesota Gophers women’s hockey team’s five-game unbeaten streak against Wisconsin came to an end Sunday afternoon at LaBahn Arena in a 4-1 loss to the No. 3 Badgers.
Minnesota, ranked No. 1 or 2 in national polls, falls to 9-2-2 this season. Wisconsin is 11-2-1.
After the Badgers scored the first goal of the game late in the first period, the Gophers’ Taylor Heise answered with a power-play goal 2:03 later to tie the game 1-1 after the opening period. The Badgers added one goal in the second period, then two more in the third to win going away.
Minnesota goaltender Skylar Vetter made 36 saves in her second loss of the season. Wisconsin’s Cami Kronish stopped 26 shots after entering the game in relief early in the first period.
“Another good game but not the outcome we wanted,” Gophers coach Brad Frost said. “Some turnovers and bad changes really cost us today. These are things that we can learn from when you play a really good team and are in transition often.”

On Saturday, the Gophers won the shootout against the Badgers for an extra point after the teams tied 3-3 in regulation.
Minnesota will head out west to compete in the Henderson Collegiate Hockey Showcase in Nevada on Nov. 25-26. The Gophers will face Penn State on Friday before facing either Boston University or Yale on Saturday.
