MELROSE - Willmar Community Christian School junior Joshua Starr turned in the fastest time and Benson/KMS won the boys team title Tuesday at the Melrose Invite at Meadowlark Golf Course.
Starr finished in 17:32.2, 16 seconds ahead of runner-up Matt Jasken of Long Prairie-Grey Eagle.
Josh Bailey was third in 17:53.6, Johnathon Tostenson fifth in 18:28.7, Sam Rosemeier seventh in 18:46.9, Brady Ascheman 11th in 18:53.3 and Jay Evan McGee 15th in 19:16.6 to post the best five times for Benson/KMS.
Litchfield came in second, paced by Stan Ridgeway’s fourth-place time of 18:24.5. The Dragons also had Griffin Kinny (10th), Matthew Eggert (13th), Cody Schabert (17th) and Carter Block (18th) place in the top 20.
Brody Strand was 16th for Paynesville’s top finish.

Area highlights in the girls race included Willmar Community Christian School’s Reegan Duininck placing second, Litchfield’s Jane Hulterstrum coming in third and Ashley Just of Benson/KMS finishing fifth.

The Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd boys placed two in the top five to win the team title Tuesday on the Madison Golf Course.
Keiser Freetly clocked the third-fastest time at 17:27.38 and teammate John Wagner came in fifth at 17:47.67. All five of LQPV/DB’s best times were in the top 20 as Mike Kvaal was 11th, Braxton Thompson 12th and Stephen Martin 16th.
Kurt TeBeest finished second in 17:07.29 and Josh Tastad was sixth at 18:00.32 to help Montevideo place sixth as a team.
On the girls side, Luverne owned the three fastest times to claim the team title by 20 points over the host.

Jordyn Sterud was fourth (20:40.19), Sadie Thompson eighth (20:58.32), Kelly Kvall 13th (21:42.19), Alex Sather 16th (22:04.17) and Grace Hegland 23rd (22:31.28) for LQPV/DB.
