WILLMAR - Former Minnesota Twins All-Star closer Eddie Guardado will be the Willmar Stingers’ guest for the team’s 2014 home opener.

The game will be 7:05 p.m. May 29 at Bill Taunton Stadium in Willmar.

Guardado will be on hand to throw out the first pitch and sign autographs.

A 21st-round draft pick by the Twins in the 1990 MLB draft, Guardado became the Twins’ full-time closer in 2002 when he helped Minnesota to their first playoff berth since the 1991 World Series with 45 saves and a 2.93 ERA.

He compiled 116 total saves with an ERA of 4.50 in 11 years with the Twins before signing with the Seattle Mariners as a free agent.
