HUTCHINSON - The Willmar wrestling team wrapped up a weekend at the Hutchinson Invitational with a second place finish and five individual champions Saturday.
The Cardinals scored 190 points, just shy of Hutchinson's 207.5 which was good enough for first place.
Jack Roehl set the tone early for Willmar at 106 pounds, going 2-0 to take home the first individual championship of the day. Fellow 106-pounder Caden Carlson also had a strong showing with a third place finish. They were followed by Israel Navarro who also went 2-0 to take first at 113 pounds and Josh Miley's second place effort at 120 pounds.
Cael and Clay Carlson kept up their strong seasons, finishing the weekend a combined 4-0 to also take first place at 126 and 132 pounds, respectively.
Brady Reigstad capped off the invite with a championship at 285 pounds for the Cardinals after defeating both of his opponents.

Fellow Cardinal grapplers Lincoln Shinn (160), Andrew Reigstad (220) and Charlie Farhat (285) all took third place as well.
BOLD brought four wrestlers to the invite and the quadruplets scored 63 points combined. Drew Maher (152), Austin Einerson (220) and Zach Foesch (285) all took second place.

New London-Spicer Invite
Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa took first place with 185 points at the New London-Spicer Invitational Friday night. The hosts, NLS, took eighth place with 89 points.
BBE's Canon Swanson (113) and Tyler Bents (126) each finished in first place while NLS' Blake Vagle took home a championship of his own.

KMS Duals
KMS won two of three matches in it's own duals on Friday night including big wins over Long Prairie-Grey Eagle-Browerville and Quad County. Will Magaard (106), Jonathan Tostenson (132) and Brandin Dahl (170) all finished 3-0 for the Saints.
Quad County was winless but Austin Friese had plenty of individual success, winning all three of his matches.

HLWW Invitational
Canon Swanson (113), Adam Jaeger (145) and Isaiah Gilbert (152) all took first place for Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Saturday afternoon at the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted Invitational.
BBE took fourth place as a team with 137 points. They finished just six points behind third place Blaine. Annandale-Mountain Lake took first as a team with 194.5 points.

Montevideo scored 1,121 points at the Section 3A True Team competition in Hutchinson on Saturday to take second place behind Sauk Rapids-Rice. Dassel-Cokato/Litchfield earned a fourth-place finish with 1,049.5, just ahead of sixth-place Willmar at 919 points.
Willmar's Garrett Shuldes earned a first place finish at the 50-yard freestyle with a 22.80 time.
Montevideo won both the 200- and the 400-yard freestyle relays while Tyler DeZeeuw also took first individually at the 100-yard breaststroke.

Alexandria won the rematch against Willmar on Saturday after taking the first game of the series Jan. 16.
This one was much closer, though, as both teams were held scoreless in the first half. Alexandria scored the first of the game halfway through the period but Willmar tied it up with a goal from Serena Monson before the end of the period.
Alexandria's Anna Doherty scored her second of the game 4:56 into the third period and that proved to be the game-winner.

Windom scored 13 seconds into the game and Morris/Benson Area tied it up nine minutes later to tie it up but Windom proceeded to dominate the rest of the game.
Windom led 3-1 after the first period and made it 4-1 through two periods but MBA's Logan Smith made it 4-2 early into the third period. Windom, however, responded with three straight goals later in the period.
MBA's Tony Bruns made 44 saves in the loss.

Delano showed why it's the No. 3 team in Class A on Saturday, outscoring Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato 8-3.
The Tigers scored a pair of goals in the opening period before a crazy second period that featured seven goals. Brandt Pedersen scored Litchfield/DC's first goal of the game when they were trailing 3-0 in the second period. He did so with a power play goal 4:32 into the period. Delano responded with two more goals before Blake Johnson scored another goal for the Dragons at the 11:50 mark.
Delano once again answered, this time with three more goals before Casey Peterson scored LDC's final goal of the game.

Junior Hockey
Willmar 3, Breezy Point 2
The Willmar WarHawks responded to a challenge from head coach Chris Blaisuis to play a better first period and they did just that, outscoring Breezy Point 1-0 in the opening period before winning 3-2.
Kyle Wendorf got the game started with a power play goal with assists from Dylan Gast and Kane Toriumi and the WarHawks as a whole came out firing with 22 shots in the first period. Breezy Point's Bronson Moore was able to turn away all but Wendorf's goal in that period.
The North Stars tied it up with a Nick Blanchette goal 5:09 into the second period and that was the score going into the final frame.
Braden Shea helped the WarHawks take the lead with a goal just 1:05 into the third period and Kane Toriumi put the game out of reach with his own power play goal at 12:22.
Blanchette earned a late penalty shot with just more than a minute to play and he converted but it was too late as the WarHawks skated away with three points.
The Warhawks now sit seven points back of a playoff spot.
