NEW LONDON -- Jake Essler returned two punts for touchdowns and ran for two more as New London-Spicer blanked St. Cloud Cathedral 47-0 in a West Central North Conference football game Wednesday.
Essler scored three times in a 28-point second quarter. He scored the game's first TD on a 24-yard run, then a seven-yard run. After Aaron Jenny's 24-yard TD reception from Jayme Moten, Essler returned a punt 48 yards for a score. He ended the scoring in the third quarter with a 45-yard punt return.
Essler finished with 172 yards rushing on 15 carries. The Wildcats (6-0, 7-0) held the Crusaders (1-5, 1-6) to 103 yards of offense.
