BENSON -- Benson took out its second-half frustrations in overtime as the Braves outlasted Morris/Chokio-Alberta 78-72 Tuesday in a West Central South Conference girls basketball game.
Benson (7-2, 12-3), which took the conference lead alone, led 68-61 with three minutes to go in the second half, but was held scoreless the remainder of the half as the Tigers (7-3, 10-4) rallied to force overtime. Morris/CA had the ball left with 10 seconds left in regulation but missed a shot. Benson got the rebound, but then turned the ball over at the buzzer to send the game into an extra period.
Benson got up quick and never looked back in overtime, limiting Morris to one field goal and two free throws in the four-minute extra session.
Julia Ahrndt drained five 3-pointers en route to netting a game-high 23 points for Benson. Abby Fragodt added 20 points and 18 rebounds and Emily Auch pumped in 14 more points.
Mary Rentz had 20 points and Jenna Nelson followed with 16 to pace the Tigers.
