Girls Basketball: Benson trips up KMS, 76-65

BENSON -- Emma Peterson led a second-half charge as Benson pulled away from Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg 76-65 Tuesday in non-conference girls basketball action.

Peterson, who scored three points in the first half, exploded for 20 points in the final 18 minutes, including all four of her three-pointers.

Emily Auch scored a game-high 30 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had seven steals for the Braves (6-1). Beth Larson chipped in 12 points and seven assists.

Sam Dunn's 15 points and seven boards led the Fighting Saints (3-2). Ellen Johnson turned in 13 points. Brooke Carlson had nine points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Julia Busiahn made the back end of a one-and-one at the free-throw line with 1.9 seconds left to put Redwood Valley (3-5) ahead. Montevideo, which owned an eight-point lead late in the game, had a shot just miss at the buzzer.

Liz Smith was 17-for-21 at the line to finish with 30 points for the Cardinals.

Amber Barnes collected a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds to spark Montevideo (0-8). Elissa Christensen also netted 11 points and Tia Diggins added another 10. Nichole Strei handed out seven assists.
