Girls Basketball: BLHS knocked out of Tomahawk lead by MVL

NEW ULM -- Minnesota Valley Lutheran took over first place in the Tomahawk Conference with a 62-50 win over Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart Tuesday in girls basketball action.

The Chargers (5-0, 9-2) broke away from a three-point halftime lead by outscoring the Mustangs (4-1, 8-2) by nine points in the second half.

Karlee Ilgen scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead BLHS. Jessie Kalenberg contributed 12 points.

Jo Ertl's 25 points bolstered by a quartet of treys lifted the Huskers. Raeann Sorenson hit a pair of three-pointers for Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa and finished with 22 points.

Holdingford led by 18 points, 48-30, with seven minutes left.

BBE hit all of its three-pointers down the stretch to get within four with three minutes left but got no closer.

Ashley Kirkof added 10 points and Shyan Kuelfer nine for the Jaguars.

The Jaguars played without Maggie Gruber, who suffered a leg-muscle bruise in Monday's win at Paynesville.
