COLD SPRING - The Willmar girls basketball team inched closer to the top of the Central Lakes Conference with a 58-27 victory over Rocori on Thursday.
The Cardinals improved to 10-1 in the CLC and 13-5 overall. Alexandria, which didn’t play Thursday, is 11-1 and 13-4 overall. The teams play the final game of the regular season on Feb. 26 in Alexandria.
On Thursday, Willmar’s Cayle Hovland scored 15 points, Grace Sawyer scored nine points and Heidi Sellmann had seven points and six rebounds. Lexi Orlowski finished with seven points and five boards.
“It was a solid game tonight by the whole team,” said Willmar head coach Dustin Carlson. “We came out and played our game, which is tough to do on the road.”
The Cardinals play the second game in a stretch of three road games in three days at Fergus Falls at 7:30 p.m. today.

The Rocori game was the first of five straight road games for Willmar.
The Cards play at Moorhead on Saturday, at Marshall on Thursday, and at Sauk Rapids on Feb. 12.
