Girls basketball: Cards fall to Otters

FERGUS FALLS -- Willmar was 14-for-16 at the free throw line Thursday, but the Cardinals committed 21 turnovers and had only one player score in double figures as Fergus Falls upended the visitors 59-52 in a Central Lakes Conference game.

Courtney Magnuson was 7-for-14 from the field and 4-for-5 at the free throw line to finish with a game-high 21 points for Willmar. But only six other Cardinals scored with Cayle Hovland pacing that pack with nine points.
Willmar shot at a 41 percent clip while Fergus Falls, which snapped a seven-game losing streak, made 50 percent of its shots. The Cardinals won the first meeting of the season, 69-46, on Jan. 2 in Willmar.
Hovland and Kaitlynn Kienholz hooked six rebounds apiece, while Magnuson and Courtney Hanson both dished out four assists.
Willmar has today off and hosts Moorhead in a girls-boys doubleheader Saturday starting with the girls game at 3:30 p.m.
