MURDOCK -- Hancock had its toughest battle so far this season, but the Owls weathered the storm and remained unbeaten as they edged Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg 48-46 in a non-conference girls basketball game Thursday.
Hancock (11-0) jumped out to an early lead, never let KMS pull ahead and owned a double-digit lead in the second half. KMS (4-3) fought back and had a chance to tie or win the game in the closing seconds, but a mid-range shot that would have tied the game at 48-48 rimmed out.
Kendra Schmidgall had 15 points and Aria Walstad dished out seven points to ignite the Hancock offense.
Katelyn Lottman with 11 points and Tracy Braaten with another 10 paced the Fighting Saints. Lottman also grabbed 11 rebounds.
