KERKHOVEN -- Hancock improved to 16-2 overall with a 70-61 non-conference girls basketball win over Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg Tuesday.
The Owls led 29-26 at halftime and expanded the lead to 14 points in the second half, but the Fighting Saints (10-12) cut the advantage to five points with 1:30 left in the game before Hancock made two baskets for the final edge.
Bree Holleman paced the Owls with 28 points, six rebounds and six assists. Kendra Schmidgall added 16 points and Lindsie Cunningham had four 3-pointers and a free throw for 13 points.
Demi Young's 16 points and six rebounds led KMS. Sarah Carlson added 15 points, six assists and five steals, and Bailey Carlson scored 13 points.
