DAWSON -- Lac qui Parle Valley broke away from a halftime tie five minutes into the second half to upend Dawson-Boyd 47-36 in a non-conference game that opened the area's 2011-12 girls basketball season Monday.
LQPV's Jordan Halvorson with 12 points and Jen Kack 8 combined to outscore Dawson-Boyd by themselves, 20-17, in the second half. Halvorson finished with a game-high 18 points and Kack 15.
The Eagles made just 1 free throw in 11 attempts, but they shot 46 percent from the field compared to 30 percent for Dawson-Boyd. LQPV had a 33-18 rebounding edge, with Jenna Weber collecting 10 boards and Katie Deyo 9 more.
Sarah Zaiser led the Blackjacks with 9 points. Katarina Kuhlmann had 4 rebounds and 3 steals.
