NEW LONDON -- New London-Spicer was heading for an awful start to a non-conference girls basketball game against Litchfield Saturday, but turned up the intensity to win, 61-34.
The Wildcats (12-2), who were coming off a loss to Sauk Centre on Thursday night, trailed 17-13 with three minutes left in the first half. But NLS rallied for 15 straight points in the last 90 seconds to take a 28-17 lead into the break.
The Dragons (5-8) were held to 17 points in the second half.
Taylor Thunstedt scored 18 points and had six steals to lead New London-Spicer. She also grabbed seven rebounds. Karsee Knutson turned in 14 points, including four 3-pointers, and Anna Lindquist had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Hailey Horstmann's nine points and Bailey Koch's eight points and eight boards paced Litchfield.
