Girls Basketball: Paynesville surges past Benson with late 11-0 run

BENSON -- Trailing 55-46 with 3:30 left in the game, Paynesville went on an 11-0 run, highlighted by three 3-pointers, and topped Benson 57-55 in a West Central South Confrence girls basketball game on Thursday.

The Bulldogs (7-6, 9-11), who have won four of their last five games, drained 9-of-20 three-pointers.

During Paynesville's final run, Benson missed the front end of a 1-and-1 free-throw attempt twice and had a pair of three-point shots bounce off the rim in the final 10 seconds.

Andrea Schlangen had 11 points, including three 3-pointers, and Brooke Wuertz and Jenna Kincade added 10 each for Paynesville. Bryanna Burg also had three 3-pointers.

Emily Auch led all scored with 24 points and also hooked 11 rebounds and made four steals for the Braves (10-4, 15-7), who fell two games behind conference-leading YME. Emma Peterson had 19 points.
