MORRIS -- A balanced scoring attack boosted Morris/Chokio-Alberta to a 48-44 victory over Benson in a West Central South Conference girls basketball game on Saturday.

Jenna Nelson and Nicole Gillespie had 12 points apiece for the Tigers (5-1, 8-2), who moved into second place alone in the conference, one game behind front-running Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City. Mary Rentz added 10 points and Sarah Kuhn nine.

Kuhn had eight of her points in the first half, including her first two 3-pointers of the season.

Morris/Chokio-Alberta led by as many as 10 points in the second half before Benson whittled the deficit to three and had the ball with 30 seconds remaining. But the Braves missed a shot and were forced to foul. Gillespie then sealed the win with a free throw with 10 seconds left.

Emily Auch led Benson with 17 points and nine rebounds. Julia Anrndt added 13 points.
