Girls basketball roundup: Marshall clubs Willmar

WILLMAR -- Ignited by a 19-0 run at one point, Marshall overwhelmed Willmar 68-27 in a non-conference game between a pair of Section 2AAA teams Thursday.

The Cardinals managed to make only eight field goals - shooting at a 21-percent clip - and failed to have a player score in double figures. Courtney Magnuson had a team-high eight points as Willmar (8-12) fell to 0-8 in non-conference games this season.
Marshall (21-2) won its 13th straight after shooting 53 percent from the field and forcing 24 turnovers.
Willmar also got nine rebounds from Kaitlynn Kienholz, six points from Sarah Smith and five rebounds from Cayle Hovland.
The Cardinals are at Brainerd today for a Central Lakes Conference game.

Amanda Nissen and Hannah Ricard each scored 11 points, and Krista Motzko 10 for the Braves.
Danielle Himley added seven points and 12 rebounds, and Motzko grabbed four assists and three steals.
Benson went 16-for-27 from the free throw line, 12-15 in the second half, which turned out to be the difference in the game as BOLD went 7-for-20 overall.
The Braves (1-13, 1-20) host Lac qui Parle Valley on Monday, and BOLD (2-8, 5-16) plays Tuesday at Paynesville.
