Girls basketball roundup: Monte edges BOLD

MONTEVIDEO -- Neither Montevideo nor BOLD had much luck shooting from long range, but the Thunder Hawks made do, rallying from a seven-point deficit to down the Warriors 59-54 in a West Central Conference game Monday.

BOLD was 1-of-12 from 3-point range and the T-Hawks didn’t make any of their six attempted 3s.

But Montevideo made 17-of-25 free throws compared to BOLD’s 13 makes.

Montevideo’s Ashley Hoehne scored 18 points and pulled down 9 rebounds and Abby Olson added 10 points and a pair of steals.

BOLD’s Carly Sigurdson scored a game-high 22 points and had 6 assists.

The T-Hawks, 9-1 in the West Central Conference, play league leader Sauk Centre (10-0 in the WCC) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Montevideo.

Abby Zwart made a close-in baseline shot to put Central Minnesota Christian up 52-50 after Renville Sacred Heart led most of the second half.

Both team had 17 field goals and the Jaguars had eight 3-pointers, twice the Bluejays’ number but the home team cashed 16 of 31 at the line while RCW shooters got to the line only 11 times, making 10.

Karisa Wubben and Lexi Scott each had 12 points for CMCS and Mary Covert 10. Scott nailed 16 rebounds and Erin Orred 10, plus 6 points.
