Girls basketball roundup: South Metro ekes out a win over CCS Eagles

Huskies beat Community Christian, 54-49; meanwhile, BLHS Mustangs tip CMCS in playoffs

WILLMAR — The Community Christian School girls basketball team was host to the South Metro Huskies, one of the top teams in the Christian Athletic League.

South Metro wound up with a 54-49 victory Friday night over Community Christian.

Marin Blom led South Metro (22-2) with 21 points. Included were four three-pointers.

CCS (10-3) got 18 points from Sage Mulder and 17 from Sophia Bollig. Mulder shot 6-for-12 from the field and also had eight rebounds and four steals. Bollig contributed 16 rebounds and four steals.

The Eagles trailed South Metro 28-25 at halftime.

Third-seeded Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart scored a mild upset over No. 2 Central Minnesota Christian in the victory at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter.

Three Mustangs scored in double figures. Kristi Kottke had 18 points, six rebounds and six assists, Sara Kottke had 12 points and four assists and Allison Milbrandt added 11 points and eight rebounds.

For CMCS, Coco Duininck led the way with 18 points. Elli Stoel had 13 points and Molly Mulder added 11 for the Bluejays.

BLHS plays Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s at 6 p.m. Monday at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter.

Top-seeded Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s used a strong second half to knock off No. 4 BOLD in St. Peter.

Sophomore guard Madison Mathiowetz had 25 points for SESM to lead all scorers.

Junior guard Sydney Windschitl added 12 points for the Knights.

For BOLD, Brenna Weis had 13 points, MaKayla Snow had 11 points and 13 rebounds and Leslie Snow added 11 points and four assists. Ashley Trongard had seven points, eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals.

SESM plays Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart at 6 p.m. Monday at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter in the Section 2A-North championship.
