Girls Basketball Roundup: Willmar Cardinals fall in OT to Marshall

Tigers outscore Cards 8-4 in extra minutes to earn a 53-49 victory at Marshall.

MARSHALL — The Willmar Cardinals girls basketball team made a comeback, but fell 53-49 in overtime to Marshall on Saturday.

The Tigers took a 25-16 lead at halftime.

Following the intermission, the Cardinals rebounded to outscore Marshall 29-20 to tie the game 45-45, forcing overtime.

Junior guard Brianna Simpson led Marshall with 25 points. Senior forward Ashleigh Steinbach added 14 points for the Tigers.

Senior guard Sammy Christoffer had 18 points to pace Willmar. Jaida Reiman added 15 points, nine rebounds and five steals for the Cardinals.

Marshall edged Willmar 8-4 in overtime..

Lac qui Parle Valley led 32-10 at halftime, then dominated the second half, out-scoring Benson 30-5 for the victory at Madison.

The Eagles tallied seven 3-pointers. Taylor Shelstad was the leading scorer with 24 points and three treys. Tori Bungarden finished with 13 and Camryn Lee had 11.

Benson had three scorers in the game. Adysen Himley finished as the leading scorer with eight, Madi Wrobleski with four and Mya Kurkosky with 3.

Browerville/Eagle Valley built on a 37-19 halftime lead en route to the non-conference victory over Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg at Browerville.

The Tigers were led by Anna Myers’ 21 points.

Josie Gjerde and Hayley Demuth led the Fighting Saints with 11 points. Gjerde also notched three steals.
