LITCHFIELD - An 8-0 run down the stretch ignited New London-Spicer past Litchfield 36-28 Thursday in a defensive Wright County West Conference game.
The Dragons led 17-16 at halftime, but they struggled to find the basket in the second half and got outscored 20-11 in the final 18 minutes of play. Neither team shot well, but NLS had the slight edge, firing at a 37-percent clip while Litchfield made only 24 percent of its field goals.
Baskets from Megan Thorson and Ashlyn Geister, and four free throws from Alyssa Fredrick broke a 28-28 tie for NLS, which has a two-game lead over the Dragons for first place in the conference with two games remaining. Thorson finished with a game-high 14 points and Geister followed with 12.
Kabrie Weber led NLS with nine rebounds and also chipped in six assists. Geister added seven rebounds and Fredrick seven assists.
NLS is off until it hosts Glencoe-Silver Lake on Tuesday.
Hannah Norlin paced the Dragons with 15 rebounds and 13 points. Litchfield hosts Osakis today.
