NEW LONDON - Peyton Miller shot an 85 Friday afternoon at Little Crow Country Club to win the New London-Spicer Invite by eight strokes.
The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa junior needed just 32 putts playing the Oaks in 45 and the Pines in 40. Her winning score included three penalty strokes for water balls.
Putting and chipping were her strengths in a sunny, warm and wind-free day after a month of cold, rain, snow and an occasional decent day.
“Usually my short game is really bad,” said the Jaguars’ three-time Class A state qualifier.
Morgan Kranz of Sauk Centre was runner-up at 93. Ellary Sweep of NLS and Lauren Anderson of team champ Albany (408) tied for third at 95.

Willmar (416) finished second, BBE (418) third and BOLD (419) fourth.
BOLD and Willmar were among teams that didn’t bring their full varsity lineup, creating opportunities for youngsters. BOLD freshman McKaia Ryberg shot a 95 (fifth place) in only her second varsity meet. Willmar seventh-grader Amanda Mathiasen debuted in a pinch with a 105.
