WILLMAR - Willmar’s Samantha Block scored 11 minutes into the third period and the Cardinals scratched out a 1-1 tie against River Lakes on Tuesday in Willmar.
“This was an intense, exciting game,” Cardinals’ head coach JaColby Anderson said. “Tonight just proves how much potential the girls have when they’re working hard the entire game.”
After surrendering a first period goal to River Lakes’ Rachel Prozinski, Willmar goalie Madison Sandberg held the Stars at bay with 30 saves.
The Cardinals tied it up when Block took a pass from Shelby Schneider inside the blue line. Block got the puck, lost it for a split second, kicked it back to herself and put it in up high in the net.
“It’s one of those games,” Anderson said. “It could’ve been a win, it should’ve been a win, but it was a tie.”
The Cardinals (1-7-1, 9-8-1) hit the road for their next game on Thursday at Fergus Falls.
River Lakes (4-3-3, 8-5-4) next plays Brainerd/Little Falls on Thursday in Richmond.
