Girls Hockey: River Lakes, Roseau to meet in 8AA semis

PAYNESVILLE -- River Lakes came out strong in both the second and third periods and goalie Jordyn Tomaszewski pitched the shutout in a 3-0 win over North Wright County in the Section 8AA quarterfinals on Saturday.

Allie Stanger scored the game-winning goal just 34 seconds into the second period, then capped the Stars’ scoring as the team netted two goals in the first minute of the third period.
Samantha Mugge scored on an assist from Shaye Cogelow-Ruter just five seconds into the third.
Elle Anderson assisted on Stanger’s first goal and she scored unassisted in the third.
NWC outshot the Stars 32-24 but Tomaszewski turned back all the RiverHawks’ attempts.
The Stars improved to 21-4-1 and take on Roseau (20-4-2) at 7 p.m. Tuesday at a rink to be determined.

Annie Magnusson scored two unassisted goals in the first five minutes to set the tone for the Otters’ victory in the first round of the Section 6A tournament on Saturday in Fergus Falls.
The Otters move on to play Detroit Lakes on Tuesday in the second round. The Storm finished the season 3-16.
Abby Moxness also scored twice for the Otters. Nicole Berens scored the Storms’ goal on a third-period power play on assists from Hanna Lindblad and Kelsey Rajewsky

Bobbie Jo Benda scored the game-winning goal 29 seconds into overtime to lead the No. 2-seed Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato Dragons to the win over Mankato East/Loyola at the Litchfield Civic Arena and into the Section 2A championship game.
LDC (13-13) will face top-seed Hutchinson (15-10-1), a 5-3 winner over Willmar in Saturday’s other semifinals game. The title game is 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Gustavus in St. Peter.
LDC outshot ME/L 43-21 but needed Kennedy Sommerfeld’s goal at 12:24 of the third period to stave off defeat and force OT.
Sommerfeld also scored the Dragons’ first goal unassisted at 13:06 of the first period. Lauren Knisley and Kalley Spreiter assisted on the game-tying goal and Katrina Impola assisted on Benda’s game-winner. Goalie Maddy Benson made 19 saves.
