Girls soccer: Brainerd downs Cardinals

WILLMAR -- The Brainerd girls soccer team awoke after halftime, scoring all of its goals in the second half of a 5-0 Central Lakes Conference victory over Willmar on Thursday at Kennedy Field.

Ally Smith notched two of the Warriors’ goals and Madeline Waters, Reagan McElfresh and Lexi Roby added tallies.
The Cardinals were peppered with shots and seven Willmar players made nine defensive saves. Card goalie Laura Christenson made six stops.
“We let them set up passing progressions and couldn’t recover,” said Willmar head coach Chelsea Brown.
Seeds for the Section 2A playoffs will be announced today.
