DELANO - The No. 4-seeded Delano Tigers scored with 15 seconds left in the first overtime period to fight off Willmar’s upset bid and collect a 2-1 win in the opening round of the Section 6A playoffs on Tuesday.
Willmar, the No. 13 seed, tallied the match’s first goal when a Kylie Halverson found the back of the net in the 11th minute. The Tigers answered 11 minutes later, but both teams were shut out for the remainder of regulation.
“We had a couple of free kicks that either went wide or narrowly missed,” said Willmar co-head coach David Vinjie.
Laura Christianson made six saves for Willmar, which was outshot 8-6 and end the season 3-8-1.
