Girls soccer: Cards tie Tech kickers

WILLMAR -- Willmar played one of their best games of the year before settling for a 2-2 tie with St. Cloud Tech on Tuesday in Central Lakes Conference girls soccer.

WILLMAR - Willmar played one of their best games of the year before settling for a 2-2 tie with St. Cloud Tech on Tuesday in Central Lakes Conference girls soccer.

“We showed up today,” said Chelsea Brown, Willmar’s head coach. “We dominated overtime.”

Tech, one of the better teams in the conference, outshot the Cards 13-8, but Willmar got a great game from keeper Jordan Martins (11 saves).

“She had a fabulous stop in the first half when she punched a hard shot over the cross bar,” Brown said.

Steph Thompson, from Alexis Becerra, put the home team up 1-0 in the first 3 minutes. After Tech tied it early in the second half, Shelby Schneider took a pass from Thompson to got up 2-1 47 minutes into the game. The Tigers tied it with 1:32 left.

Willmar is at Brainerd on Thursday and in Alexandria for a 2 p.m. start on Saturday.
