MANKATO - Mankato West’s Madison Burandt scored four goals and the Willmar girls soccer team’s season came to an end in an 8-0 loss to the Scarlets Tuesday in the Section 2A playoffs.
Against Mankato West, goalie Jordan Martins turned back five shots.
The Cardinals finished 1-12-3 but coach Chelsea Brown said her young team is looking toward a bright future.
Willmar graduates three players from this year’s team. Comparatively, the Cards graduated 24 players in the previous two years.
“We have a lot of potential coming up,” Brown said. “We’re a young team and we’re excited to see where we can go in the future. We’ll definitely miss our seniors but we’re happy it’s only three. This is a really hard-working group of girls and in time it will come back and we’ll be on top again.”
