WILLMAR -- St. Cloud Apollo took advantage of opportunites when Willmar did not, leading to a 3-0 Cardinal loss in Central Lakes Conference girls soccer play Monday at Roosevelt Field.
The team played at Roosevelt to get an earlier start because of Willmar's homecoming coronation ceremony later Monday evening.
Willmar coach Jeff Winter said the team had chances but the shots didn't find the mark.
"We had a couple scoring opportunities that went just wide, one in each half," he said.
Chloe Donohue had a good scoring chance just outside the box but her shot went barely wide of the goal post.

Willmar (1-7-1, 4-8-1) had 10 shots on goal and the Eagles (7-1-1, 10-1-1) had 14. Jordan Martins had nine saves and the Cardinals' defense came up with two more saves.
"Despite our losing streak, we are overcoming our injuries and illnesses and starting to play some decent soccer," Winter said.
Apollo, second in the conference standings, got a first-half goal from Andezu Orionzi, then goals in the second half from Katherine Rogoscheske and Courtney Lynch.
Willmar gets back on the field today, hosting Little Falls in a conference match at 5 p.m. at Kennedy Field.
