SARTELL - Senior Bailey Hovland and her eighth-grade sister Cayle took third place in the Section 8AA-South Individual Tournament and will advance to next Saturday’s doubles Elite 8 at the Fitness Evolution on the north edge of St. Cloud.
The Hovlands defeated Olivia Hultgren/Katie Suckert of Becker 6-4, 6-4 for third. The Hovlands will join seven other doubles teams in the final round with two pairs advancing to the state individual tournament.
“Bailey and Cayle were impressive beating a good Apollo pair and both Becker duos,” said Willmar coach Jim Anderson.
Anderson added Hannah Hansen, at singles, also played very well defeating Erika Bartholemy of St. Cloud Apollo/Cathedral 7-5, 6-1 before bowing to singles runner-up Katelyn Tarrolly of St. Cloud Tech 6-0, 6-2.
