Girls Tennis: Litchfield’s Huhner, Kinny capture consolation title in Class A doubles

MINNEAPOLIS -- Litchfield's freshmen tandem of Laney Huhner and Shanna Kinny won both of its matches on Friday to win the doubles consolation title at the Class A State Individual Tournament at Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center.

MINNEAPOLIS - Litchfield’s freshmen tandem of Laney Huhner and Shanna Kinny won both of its matches on Friday to win the doubles consolation title at the Class A State Individual Tournament at Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center.

After going 2-0 on Thursday to reach the semifinals, Minnewaska’s doubles entrant of senior Makenna Hanson and junior Joelle Thorfinnson placed fourth on Friday after losing two matches.

Huhner and Kinny won both matches in straight sets, upending Ava Wallerich and Ashley Thieren of Lake City 6-2 6-3, and then the St. Peter duo of Kelli Hanson and Josie Carlson 6-2 6-1 in the consolation final.

Hanson and Thorfinnson lost 6-1 6-1 to eventual champions Anna Zumwinkle and Kendall Kozikowski of Breck in the semifinals and then 6-0 6-4 in the third-place match to Kayla McIver and Kylee Funk of Foley.
