Girls tennis roundup: Willmar clips Alexandria

WILLMAR -- Willmar managed to win just one set in three doubles matches, but the Cardinals didn't lose a set in singles en route to edging Alexandria 4-3 in a Central Lakes Conference dual on Thursday.

WILLMAR - Willmar managed to win just one set in three doubles matches, but the Cardinals didn’t lose a set in singles en route to edging Alexandria 4-3 in a Central Lakes Conference dual on Thursday.
Cayle Hovland at No. 1, Jordyn Swoboda at No. 2, Elise Bierbaum at No. 3 and Lydia Morrell at No. 4 all won their singles matches for Willmar, which remained unbeaten on the young season.
Morrell shut out her opponent in the first set and lost just one game in the second set, while Bierbaum posted a 6-0, 6-3 victory.
“We played to our strength, sweeping all four singles matches,” said Willmar coach Jim Anderson.
Willmar improved to 2-0 in the CLC and 4-0 overall. Next week Willmar is at St. Cloud Tech on Tuesday and hosts Brainerd on Thursday.

Nicole Erickson and Morgan Reidinger at 2-doubles and 3-doubles Olivia Bartz and Rachel West won in straight sets.
