ALEXANDRIA - Willmar’s four singles players lost only a combined 11 games en route to winning all four matches in a 4-3 win over Alexandria on Tuesday in a key Central Lakes Conference match for Willmar.
The win upped the Cardinals’ CLC record to 8-1 and a good grasp of second place in the conference. St. Cloud Tech sits in first place with an unbeaten record and is the Cardinals’ next opponent. The two meet on Thursday in Willmar starting at 4:30 p.m.
Lydia Morrell highlighted the singles sweep with a 6-0 6-0 win at No. 4. Cayle Hovland lost just three games at No. 1, Jordyn Swoboda five at No. 2 and Elise Bierbaum three at No. 3.
“The singles group didn’t blink a bit and carried the team across the finish line in style, dominating all four matches,” said Willmar coach Jim Anderson.
After Thursday’s showdown with the Tigers, Willmar wraps up the regular season next Tuesday at third-place Brainerd.
