WILLMAR -- Brooklyn Leitch and Heidi Wilson earned the deciding point for Willmar Tuesday as the Cardinals clipped St. Cloud Apollo 4-3 in their Central Lakes Conference opener in girls tennis.
The Eagles got their three points by taking the top three singles spots. Kayli Gimse kept the Cardinals (1-0, 3-3) from being swept in singles by winning 6-4, 6-0 at the fourth spot.
Megan Rudie and Betsy Vomacka paired to collect a 6-2, 6-1 win at 2-doubles while Abby Kack and Alex Linbo won 6-0, 6-1 at 3-doubles for Willmar, which is off until next Tuesday when it travels to Little Falls.
"I knew they had a stronger singles lineup, but I'm glad we able to pull it out," said Willmar coach Erika Kath.

Katie Kienitz, Caylee Hagemeyer, Annie Winter and Morgan Jaenisch all won singles matches in straight sets.
Megan Call-Emily Sat-re, Leah Trulock-Kelsey Gunderson and Leah Alsum-Amanda Miller all won in straight sets in doubles. Trulock-Gunderson won a first-set tiebreaker.
