Quaeterback Alex Grove (Willmar) ran for a pair of 1-yard touchdowns and hooked up with Brandon Zylstra (New London-Spicer) on a 25-yard score as the Concordia College Cobbers smacked Jamestown 41-17. In his debut as a starter, Grove , a junior, rushed for 33 yards and threw for 204 yards and three scores. Zylstra caught 6 passes for 63 yards and Adam Essler (NLS) carried 5 times for 22 yards. Cornerback Matt Ahrndt led the defense with 7 solo tackles. The win gets head coach Terry Horan (Willmar) within two victories of reaching 100 starting his 15th season.
At Collegeville, Josh Bumgarn (Paynesville) caught 8 passes for 85 yards as St. John’s University beat Dubuque, Iowa, 45-9. Quarterback Nick Martin (Wayzata), son of Cardinal Pride HOF member Bobby Martin, ran for 34 yards and threw for 138 more.
