High School Baseball: Willmar opens the season with a 5-1 victory
The Cardinals get 10 hits and their pitchers strike out 12 to beat Mound Westonka on Saturday. Also, ACGC beats Minnewaska 6-2.
MOUND — The Willmar baseball team opened the 2021 season impressively Saturday.
The Cardinals beat Mound Westonka 5-1 in a non-conference game.
Andrew Baumgart pitched four innings for Willmar, striking out 10 and walking one. He allowed two hits and one unearned run. At the plate, he also doubled.
Dylan Arndorfer tripled. Cayden Hansen was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Chase Dirksen went 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI. Ian Koosman, Hunter Manguson and Sam Ettermann were each 1-for-3 for the Cards.
Willmar opens Central Lakes Conference play at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Cloud’s Dick Putz Field. The Cardinals play St. Cloud Apollo.

Josh Kinger tossed a one-hitter to enable Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City to beat Minnewaska on Saturday at Atwater.
The left-hander struck out 17 and walked no one. Both runs ACGC surrendered were unearned and scored in the top of the first.
ACGC managed seven hits, scoring two in the first, three in the second and one in the fifth.
