DAWSON — Behind a monster effort from Micah Olson, Dawson-Boyd is still unbeaten.
Accounting for all four of his team’s touchdowns, the senior quarterback helped the Blackjacks erase a 13-0 deficit en route to a 28-25 victory over Lac qui Parle Valley on Friday. It was a Southwest District West Division game from R.B. Clay Field.
Olson pounded his way to 243 yards on 29 rushes and three scores. He was also 5-for-9 passing for 86 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
While Olson dominated late, Lac qui Parle Valley was in control through much of the first half. After senior linebacker Carter Amland stuffed Olson on a fourth-and-goal from the Eagles’ 2-yard line, the visitors struck three plays later when junior Landon Schirm broke free for a 89-yard rushing touchdown.

On the next LQPV drive, Schirm again was instrumental. He hauled in a short pass for a first down before out-jumping Olson for a 45-yard reception down the right sideline. Senior quarterback Colton Mortenson completed the drive when he found junior wide receiver Tyler Schickedanz on a 6-yard slant pattern to make it 13-0 in the second quarter.
Responding on its ensuing drive, Dawson-Boyd needed just two plays to cut into the deficit. Carrying the ball on a designed quarterback run, Olson bounced to the outside and sprinted down the right sideline for a 63-yard score. At the start of the second half, he gave the Blackjacks their first lead after crossing the goal line on a 1-yard plunge. Later, he added a 12-yard run in the third quarter.
Up 22-19 entering the fourth, Olson found senior running back Jordan Hastad on a 32-yard touchdown reception. Hastad was the team’s leading tackler with six-and-a-half tackles.
Dawson-Boyd next plays at 7 p.m. Thursday at Minneota. LQPV plays at the same time. The Eagles travel to Canby.

There were a couple of big fourth-down scores in overtime. And the difference was a little razzle-dazzle on the two-point conversion by Benson, helping the host Braves beat Upsala/Swanville Area in overtime.
Heading into overtime tied 12-12, Benson scored first. On fourth down, Abe Peterson caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Cole Hedman. The Braves then had receiver Ben Peterson throw a pass to Thomas Dineen for the two-point conversion.
USA then got the ball. The Patriots’ Max Lange scored on fourth down on a three-yard run. On the attempted two-point conversion, USA quarterback Carter Johnson was stopped on the 1-yard line by Kellen Schmidt. It was a broken play that Johnson improved on. Schmidt three solo and three assisted tackles. He also had a quarterback sack.
