BENSON — Even with a new-look team with only two starters back from a year ago, BOLD still finds ways to get into the win column.

Playing Benson in the season opener, the Warriors held a 14-0 lead at halftime and managed to stay ahead in a high-scoring second half to leave Brock Field a 35-20 victor on Friday night.

Both teams traded possessions through the first 11 minutes before the Warriors got two quick scores to end the first quarter. Quarterback Drew Sagedahl connected with tight end Avery Herdina for a 10-yard touchdown with 24 seconds left in the first. Twelve seconds later, on the next drive, the Braves’ first pass was intercepted by Hunter Borer, who ran 15 yards for the defensive score.

With the Braves playing catchup, the Warriors’ defense struck again when Braeden Tersteeg intercepted a pass at midfield and went the distance for the team’s second pick-six of the game.

Receiver Ben Peterson and quarterback Cole Hedman connected for two fourth-quarter scores for Benson, from 17 and 39 yards out.

BOLD’s next game is Thursday at Maple Lake. Benson is scheduled to play Friday at Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa.
