DANUBE — Renville County West senior Brandan Hoberg had his fingerprints all over the Jaguars’ second straight section championship.

The Jaguars’ quarterback ran for three touchdowns and tossed two to lead top-seeded RCW to the Section 2 9-Man championship with a 40-14 win over third-seeded Red Rock Central.

After forcing the Falcons to punt on the first drive of the game, Hoberg brought the Jaguars into the end zone on an 8-yard run. Jake Haney, a 6-foot-2, 315-pound defensive lineman, bulldozed his way into the end zone with a run on the two-point conversion.

After Red Rock Central’s Damon Holmen helped tie the game in the first quarter with a 3-yard TD run, Hoberg ran in another score from eight yards out to give the lead back to the Jaguars. Then with 27 seconds left before halftime, Riley Ashburn caught a pass from Hoberg and raced 27 yards to the end zone, making it a 20-8 RCW advantage at the break.

The Jaguars scored 20 straight points in the second half, with a 1-yard Hoberg run, a 46-yard pass from Hoberg to Ayden Gustafson and a 6-yard Jaden Kolker run.

Hoberg had 166 of RCW’s 287 rushing yards along with 108 yards on 5 of 9 passing. On defense, he had nine tackles (two solo) and a sack.

Kolker finished with 97 rushing yards on 22 carries to go with eight tackles, a sack and an interception. Ashburn and Gustafson both had 54 yards receiving.

Quarterback Luke Willhite led the Falcons’ ground game with 53 yards on 13 carries. Holmen added 44 yards on 14 attempts.

Along with a second consecutive 2 9-Man championship, RCW caps off the 2020 season undefeated at 6-0.
