High School Girls: River Lakes tips Alexandria 3-2 in overtime

Olivia Haines, Sophia Hess and Paige Blattner score goals to help the Stars improve to 5-0

ALEXANDRIA — Olivia Haines scored a goal in the final minute of regulation to send River Lakes into overtime with Alexandria. And in the first minute of the extra period, Sophia Hess notched the game-winner to put the Stars past the host Cardinals, 3-2 Tuesday night in Central Lakes Conference girls hockey at the Runestone Community Center.

After a scoreless first period, River Lakes scored the first goal at the 4-minute, 3-second mark of the second thanks to Paige Blattner, with assists to Hess and Hannah Zimmer. Alexandria responded with a power--play goal late in the second by Marki Oberg. Then at 10:21 of the third, the Cardinals went ahead after an Ali Castle tally.

In net, Stars goaltender Kaydence Roeske stopped 27 shots.

River Lakes, ranked 12th in Class A, will play host to Sartell/Sauk Rapids on Thursday in Richmond.
