MONTEVIDEO — In the opening dual of the season, Montevideo squeaked by Minnewaska at home.
However, during the West Central Conference championship, the Lakers exacted a bit of revenge.
Taking 3 of 4 singles matches and a pair of doubles matches, Minnewaska captured a 5-2 victory over the Thunder Hawks from Montevideo High School.

The lone match to go three sets took place at No. 2 singles. Winning the first set easily, Lakers junior Addy Randt battled past Cami Myers 6-1, 4-6, 10-8. Her teammates Annika Randt and Leah Hagen won in straight sets at third and fourth singles, respectively.
At No. 1 doubles, the Lakers junior duo of Maddie Thorfinnson and Olivia Richards dropped just one game in their two-set win over Tyra Sandven and Emily Brace. Sophomore Grace Jensen and Olivia Bleick relinquished just two games in their win over Nina Fitzkappes and Annie Marquardt at third doubles.
For the hosts, Kori Douglas breezed by Alissa Thorfinnson 6-2, 6-0 at the top of the singles lineup. Also, the team of Mathea Jorgenson and Abby Gremmels outlasted Ally Mogard and Zoey Elwood during a second-set tiebreak to take a two-set victory at No. 2 doubles.

A Rocori highlight was at No. 3 doubles. Mackenzie Galazen and Teanna Horn beat the Cardinals’ Rebecca Laurence and Kylee Berget 7-6 (3), 1-6, 10-8.
