LITCHFIELD — After going five sets on Tuesday, Thursday’s sequel between Litchfield and Annandale did not disappoint.

Going to five sets once again, the visiting Cardinals climbed back from a 13-11 fifth-set deficit to beat the Dragons for the Wright County Conference victory.

Annandale took the match 25-22, 10-25, 25-17, 19-25, 15-13.

The loss snapped a seven-match win streak for the Dragons, who had not lost since the season opener against New London-Spicer on Oct. 8.

Litchfield got off to a promising start, going ahead 8-2 after an ace serve by Addi Marquardt before the Cardinals tied it up at 10-all. With both teams squared up at 22-all, the Cardinals won the opening set after back-to-back kills by Kali Jones and Josie Jerpseth, followed by an attacking error.

While the first set slipped away, the Dragons didn’t mess around in the second, building a 17-2 lead on the way to tying the match.

With Annandale winning the third and Litchfield taking the fourth, the Cardinals started the fifth with a 4-1 lead. An ace serve by the Dragons’ Kristin Foley tied the deciding set at 9-all. With two kills by Sydney McCann and a successful tip by setter Lily Osterberg, Litchfield went up 13-11.

But, Annandale won the last four points on a blocking error, a kill, a block and a serve-receive error.

McCann led the Dragons with 13 kills along with 19 digs. Foley led the team in set assists (41) and digs (20) while also chipping in three ace serves and three kills. Lily Osterberg tallied 12 kills and 10 digs in the loss.

Litchfield will play a pair of games against Glencoe-Silver Lake next week, at Glencoe on Tuesday and Litchfield on Thursday.
