High School Volleyball: KMS Fighting Saints end skid, beat RCW Jaguars in three

KMS ends three-match losing streak

RENVILLE — Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg strengthened its hold atop the Camden Conference North Division on Thursday.

Traveling to Renville County West, the Fighting Saints won in a sweep, 25-20, 25-17, 25-19.

The win snaps a three-game skid for KMS after starting the fall 3-0.

The Fighting Saints opened the first set with the lead and never surrendered it. Tied 9-all, KMS won six straight points to go up 15-9, getting kills from Halie Nichols and Lauren Krieger along with a pair of ace serves from Maret Gjerde in that run. The Jaguars were able to cut the gap to 22-20 with a kill by Addyson Tanner before the Fighting Saints closed the set by winning the next three points.

Kelley was KMS’ top attacker with 11 kills, followed by nine from Krieger and six from Gjerde, who also had a team-high three ace serves. Grace Collins facilitated the offense with 23 set assists. Nichols led the defense with 16 digs.

Hannah Pharr, a 6-foot-1 middle blocker, finished with a team-high nine kills for RCW. Tanner and Holly Bratsch had nine and seven set assists, respectively. Tanner also tallied 16 digs in the loss.

Both teams are on the road Monday as the Fighting Saints head to Clara City to play MACCRAY. The Jaguars travel to Prinsburg to play Central Minnesota Christian.
