High School Wrestling: MAHACA, NLS and Team United move plenty of wrestlers into state prelims

Morris Area/Hancock/Chokio-Alberta Tigers send six, New London-Spicer Wildcats send five and Team United also advances five to Saturday's next rounds at Redwood Valley High School in Section 3AA


REDWOOD FALLS — Morris/Hancock/Chokio-Alberta advanced six wrestlers out of the Section 3AA individual tournament on Tuesday, while New London-Spicer and Team United each moved on five individuals.

The teams wrestled down to four individuals in each weight, with two undefeated wrestlers and two still alive in the consolation bracket.

Moving on with undefeated records in the section tournament from New London-Spicer are Luke Knudsen at 113 pounds, Ty Bisek at 120 and Nick McKenzie at 285.

High School Roundup: BBE moves on to Section 5A final by beating Minnewaska Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, ranked second in the state, beat seventh-ranked Minnewaska 40-20 in the semifinals. The Jaguars face top-ranked Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Browerville on Saturday. LPGE/B advanced by knocking off Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg. Meanwhile, Dassel-Cokato/Litchfield moves on in Section 6AA.

Remaining unbeaten from Team United (Dawson-Boyd, Lac qui Parle Valley and Montevideo) are Daniel Gunlogson at 106 and Dain Mortenson at 152.


MAHACA’s unbeaten wrestlers are Dallas Walton at 113, Ethan Lebrija at 126 and Davin Rose at 132.

Moving to the next round from NLS with one loss are: Luke Ruter (126) and Brody Duke (145).

United’s other advances are: Zander Clausen (126), Avery Wittnebel (160) and Trey Teichert (285).

MAHACA’s wrestlers still alive are: Noah Amundson (170), Asher Malek (182), Hunter Gibson (195) and Brock Marty (220).

Saturday’s state prelim is in Redwood Falls and will include the final four at each weight in Section 2AA. The final two remaining advance to an eight-person state bracket March 26 in St. Michael-Albertville.
